Questions over ICO Data Protection Fee letter

I have had a number of clients ask me about the latest letter from the ICO, regarding the Data Protection Fee.

Some have felt the approach rather heavy-handed, but since 2018 controllers must pay an annual fee unless they are exempt.

I recommend that all organisations should visit the ICO website to learn more and use the registration self-assessment tool to determine if they are exempt or not.

Even if you exempt, you might feel that paying the fee (typically £40 or £60 per year) sends a good message to your supporters about how you value their personal data. The register is publicly available.
