World Vision flips sponsorship idea

World Vision has flipped the traditional child sponsorship model on its head. Under its ‘Chosen’ programme, children get to choose their sponsor.

In the words of the introduction in World Vision’s Chosen website

Some children wait years to be chosen by sponsors. But what would happen if, instead, they got to choose? For the first time, the power to choose is in a child’s hands. Chosen Sponsorship gives children the power to take hold of their future, to create change in their own lives, and to transform their community.

You submit a photo and it’s sent to a community in need where a choosing party is held. The children pick which person, couple or family they want to be their sponsors from the photos, and World Vision lets you know who chose you and why.
