5 steps to cyber security

The National Cyber Security Centre (“NCSC”) has updated its small business guide to cyber security, and it’s a good starting point for non-profits if you want to check how you are protecting yourselves.

Many of you attended our free webinar a couple of weeks ago, which highlighted this, and the guide is packed with practical advice to discuss with your IT provider. It also includes a link to a checklist to help you work through the recommendations.

Our webinar attendees completed a survey, and around half had never checked that their backups were actually working. We do recommend that you test this periodically, and also make sure your backups include all the folders and files you think they do, especially important as you add applications, users, etc to your system.

We were surprised at the low take-up of any cyber security accreditation such as Cyber Essentials. Not only does it demonstrate your compliance with some principles of the UK GDPR, it says something positive about your organisation too, supported by the logo you become entitled to use. Having just renewed it ourselves, if you would like to know more about what’s involved, why to book a free 20-minute insight call and ask us?
