ICO issues largest pension cold calls fine

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has fined EB Associates Group Limited £140,000 for instigating over 107,000 illegal cold calls to people about pensions.

Although an organisation may generally (do check if you are considering this channel for fundraising or supporter communications) make live telephone calls using the lawful basis of Legitimate Interests, some types of call are excluded.

The Government banned the practice of making pension cold calls in 2019, to try and stop people being scammed out of their life savings.

We are seeing more charities asking for consent to make telephone calls, because it can be seen as intrusive.
