ICO launches 3 year strategy – have your say

The ICO has launched its three-year strategy under the title of ICO25. The Information Commissioner, John Edwards, launched the strategy under the banner of ‘Empowering you through information’:

  • Empowering people to confidently share their information to use the products and services that drive our economy and our society.
  • Empowering organisations to use information responsibly and confidently to invest and innovate.
  • And empowering people to hold government to account, driving transparency that helps us all better trust in the decisions taken by public bodies.

These are laudable aims and let’s hope they are give the opportunity to deliver, and that the Data Reform Bill does not hamper things. I also note that John Edwards estimate of business savings is £100 million, down from the £1 billion that Digital Secretary Nadine Dorries suggested on 17th June.

You can see the draft plan, and offer your views on it by 22nd September 2022, by visiting https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/ico-and-stakeholder-consultations/call-for-views-ico25-plan/, and we encourage you to do so.
