Facebook encrypts tracking URL’s

Only 2 weeks ago we reported that Firefox (and subsequently other browsers) had started to automatically strip tracking URL’s from web addresses, such as Facebook use to track our behaviour https://zorva.info/2022/07/08/new-for-chrome-and-firefox-users/.

Well, GRC’s Security Now! podcast and show notes https://www.grc.com/sn/sn-880-notes.pdf reports that Facebook has gotten around this by starting to encrypt the links.

Without stepping to the perhaps contentious territory of whether we have a right to use the internet without being tracked, Steve Gibson makes the valid point that any anti-tracking privacy enforcement will need to be created by policy and not technology.
