NCSC starts scanning UK network space

The National Cyber Security Centre (“NCSC”) has started to adopt a proactive approach by scanning the UK network space for known vulnerabilities. This sounds like a very good idea, and we welcome it.

This is a part of the NCSC’s Active Cyber Defence strategy and aims to help make the UK the safest place to live and do business online by allow the NCSC to:

  • better understand the vulnerability and security of the UK
  • help system owners understand their security posture on a day-to-day basis
  • respond to shocks (like a widely exploited zero-day vulnerability)
