Google to make Android apps more private

Google plans to follow Apple in restricting apps ability to track our data.

Apple already forces app developers to ask permission from users before tracking them, and Google’s Privacy Sandbox will limit the sharing of users data including the advertising ID’s that can operate across app boundaries.

What’s good for our data privacy can be bad for some business. As an example, Meta (ex Facebook) have said that Apple’s changes alone will cost them £7.3bn this year and Apple has just 15% of the market, so you can imagine the impact that this Android announcement will have.

Google have said it may take up to 2 years to implement all this, but at least more privacy is on the way. The BBC tech website has more information on the background at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-60403963
