11 practical ways to keep your IT systems safe

Most of us like a good checklist, if only to make sure we haven’t missed anything important in our planning.

In a recent ICO blog, they suggest 11 practical ways to keep your IT systems safe including:

  • Back up your data
  • Use strong passwords
  • Take care when working remotely
  • Be wary of suspicious email
  • Install anti-virus and malware protection
  • Don’t leave paperwork or laptops unattended
  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is secure
  • Lock your screen when you’re away from your desk
  • Keep on top of who has access to what
  • Don’t keep data for longer than you need it
  • Dispose of old IT equipment and records security

All good points, and much in common with the advice from NCSC. The ICO blog has more details at https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/sme-web-hub/whats-new/blogs/11-practical-ways-to-keep-your-it-systems-safe-and-secure/
