Microsoft says goodbye to Patch Tuesdays

Microsoft has announced that it will be rolling out a new Autopatch system for Windows 10 and 11.

As reported in Security Now! episode 866 (you can listen and read the show notes at https://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm), Lior Bela, a Senior Product Marketing Manager at Microsoft said

“This service will keep Windows and Office software on enrolled endpoints up-to-date automatically, at no additional cost. The second Tuesday of every month will be ‘just another Tuesday’.”

Many IT managers like a specific patch schedule, so they can check for issues before they apply the patches, and so this may not be universally welcome.

Perhaps it’s time to check that all your machines are set to auto update if that’s your policy, and that this new change won’t adversely affect you.
