On 8th December, the European Union reached a political agreement on the Artificial Intelligence Act, which would be the world’s first comprehensive regulation of AI.
As reported by the IAPP:
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement, calling it historic, and noting it will have a global impact: “Our AI Act will make a substantial contribution to the development of global rules and principles for human-centric AI.”

This will have a considerable impact in coming times, and ensure that the EU is considered a leader in this field. Although, of course, it may have no impact on us, we hope that the UK might benefit from it in due course.
