Password manager helps to avoid scams

Manu of you are already using a password Manager like Bitwarden, 1Pass, etc and enjoying the benefits. If you are, and especially if you are not yet, you might like to know of another benefit that can help protect you against scams.

One scam technique is to create website URLs which are very similar to real sites, but perhaps include a special character or, for example, a lower case L instead of a 1. It is easy to miss these tricks, and to enter credentials into these fake sites.

If you have chosen to have your password manager autofill credentials, then it is easier to see when the website URLs are not exactly the same. Many people, including us, use the password manager directory as a white list and so open websites direct from there, for extra safety.

These topics and many others are discussed on the NCSC website at https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/ where you can also find free guides and other resources.
