In the King’s speech, several bills were announced which may affect us. They include:
- Digital Information and Smart Data Bill – perhaps encompassing some of the now defunct Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. Maybe this will include allowing nonprofits to use Soft Opt-In.
- Cyber Security and Resilience Bill – expanding measures already in place but also giving more powers to the regulator and imposing new reporting requirements on organisations.
No plans were announced for AI regulation at the moment.
Of course, it’s early days for the new government, but let us hope that they prioritise data protection and cybersecurity, to help keep us all safe.
