The ePrivacy Regulation proposal, which would have seen the outdated 2002 EU regulation updated for the changes in technology including cookies, electronic mail, etc, has been formally withdrawn.
Does this matter to us in the UK? Well, yes in the sense that the 2002 regulations formed the basis of PECR and so any changes would have almost inevitably filtered through to the UK. The ICO has been good at updating its guidance as time have changes, but regulations have more authority.
