We had not come across the Centre for Ageing Better until recently, but they produce an annual ‘State of Ageing’ report, and it is important reading for any charity that uses, or could use, volunteers.
Their assessment is that 110 million volunteer hours have been lost since the pandemic. Have you found that too?
Although some may not return to volunteering for various reasons, it appears that there could be a massive pool of volunteers waiting to be re engaged with.
You can read the report at https://ageing-better.org.uk/resources/summary-report-state-ageing-2025 and perhaps the time is right to make sure you have an attractive offer for volunteers, and a plan to re-engage them.
The DSC has a range of great resources around volunteering and other topics, and you might start with the link https://www.dsc.org.uk/publication/the-complete-volunteer-management-handbook/.
