Charity Governance Code gets major update

The Charity Governance Code was first published in 2005 and has had minor updates since then, but a major update has just been released.

The code sets out principles of governance to help trustees reflect on how they lead, decide and uphold their charities’ purposes, and is designed to be an aspirational tool well suite to being considered a little at as time. This makes it ideal for tackling a piece at a time at each trustees meeting.

It is a voluntary framework but many charities use it to help their boards achieve the highest standards of effectiveness and accountability.

The new code focuses much more on the behaviours likely to sustain effective boards, and you can find out more at https://www.charitygovernancecode.org/.
