Age UK Suffolk has closed, following financial challenges compounded after the COVID-19 led to a fall in fundraising and paid-for services.
The services cost £2 million per year to run and the county council said it would help to ensure that the essential gap is filled, but I expect that is little comfort for the 145 staff that have been made redundant.
Age UK Suffolk provided services such as home help, befriending and advice to older people across the county. Perhaps it’s time that these essential services were funded more centrally, rather than relying on charitable donations?
