20% have donated in last 3 months says YouGov

Despite the coronavirus crisis causing many people to be more careful about their finances, one in five people in the UK have donated to a charity in the past 3 months, according to data from YouGov Profiles.

The full article make very interesting reading. In line with typical donation patterns, donors are more likely to be older (48% aged 55 and above) and female (54%). The split between ad hoc and regular donations was almost 50/50 and donors’ disposable income were identical to the population as a whole.

Health and medical charities benefited most (30%) with animal charities a close second (27%); children and youth charities came third (20%).

I’m not sure how as fundraisers we might capitalise on this, but 75% of donors agreed with the statement “I make an effort to support local business”.
