ICO launches new guidance for political campaigning

Whilst this applies to a minority of insight newsletter subscribers, I thought it important that we should all be aware of it.

The ICO has published new guidance on political campaigning, and they define this as “activity in support of, or against, a political party, a referendum campaign or a candidate standing for election, or the success or failure of a recall petition.”

Whilst the guidance is relevant in those circumstances, I think it can also help organisations involved in lobbying generally. Whilst it does not carry the same weight, it shows how the ICO is thinking and offers a great deal of best practice that should make your lobbying safer. This is a good place to start on the ICO website.
