Fundraising complaints on the rise

The Fundraising Regulator is concerned that the number of fundraising complaints are on the rise, according to their CEO Gerald Oppenheim speaking at a Civil Society event last week.

There does not seem to be a clear trend, but complaints include the selective use of statistics and around gaming-based fundraising.

So let’s make sure that you don’t appear on that list – here are 3 simple steps we recommend:

  • Make sure you check all your fundraising campaigns and events against the Code of Fundraising Practice available at
  • Give yourselves plenty of time to plan a campaign
  • Always check your signup forms carefully, to make sure they comply with the UK GDPR and especially around email and text marketing
